probable cause is oil or contaminant,s on the clutch disc & pressure plate..many tractor,s will not shift until you come to a complete stop..this is due to lack of synchronizer,s in the transmission...you will be able to shift once you learn to match engine R.P.M. to tractor speed...this practice take,s a while to master...as far as the smoke..you should have the rear main engine seal & transmission input seal checked as well as the clutch it self...good luck. ...a 310D is a fine dependable unit...if the price is right...go for it.
