The best way to go is ask pond supplier what they use. I know I have a small pond also and the trick is to get the roots out well that was a backache and finally consulted feed store in town and the recommended take regular round up and dilute down even more to 50 50 and spray a few of the cat tails and wait for if you spray to much you risk killing your fish in pond. So after about 6 days the tips of the cat tails started to turn brown. I then waited another week and sprayed again I was very careful and it all worked out well as of today I have no cat tails. Good luck
