Best way to demolish single-car garage?
I have an old 12×19′ single car garage on my property and would like to take it down myself. I have already taken the 12×5′ shed-roof addition on it, but am wondering if I am going about it the proper (read: safe) way.
It is a simple gable end box – I plan to take a circular saw and cut up along the rafters on each side, and take down the roof piece by piece from back (alley) to front (back yard).
After the roof is off – the walls should be simple enough to deconstruct.
Anyone have any other suggestions (other than using a truck to pull it down, or a backhoe/bulldozer). There are two other garages within two feet on both sides of the building, an alley directly behind and approx. 25′ to the back of the house.
Thanks!
Thanks for your suggestions – I think I’m going to get on the roof, make three cuts from ridge to edge on each side. Then, from inside the garage I’ll use a sawzall to cut the nails joining the deck to the rafters and take it apart that way. It’ll limit my time on the roof when it’s in an unstable condition.
how do you get rid of cattails that grow around a ponds edge?
My boss has a small pond (1/2 acre) that has cattails growing around edge.At first they made good cover and kept the sides from eroding but now they are out of control. They are so thick you can’t even get near the water and enjoy the pond. There are fish in the pond. Are there any pesticides that are safe to use.We have dug them out with a backhoe and they come right back. Also I have heard if you place a bale of Barley Hay in the water source of a pond there will not be any moss on top of water.
Big Brother Big Sister Program?
I am thinking about joining the Big Brother mentoring program but have some questions.
Typically how old/big are the kids you get? I will be rebuilding my deck this summer and could use a spare set of hands. He would need to move around 4×4 lumber for extended periods, be familiar with the use of a power auger and bobcat loader/backhoe, be comfortable working at heights, and have a positive can-do attitude.
Also how many days do you get the kid? I will probably be working every weekend from sun-up to sun-down but I might also work week nights.
Finally how much do you get reimbursed for the mentoring?
Looking for strong and durable ear buds that i can use while working at a constructing site.?
Looking for strong and durable ear buds that i can use while working at a constructing site.?
Good night, i work at a construction site and i spend about 60% of my time listing to mp3 on my psp while operating a backhoe. i had a turtle beach anr 15 ear buds headphones which started to short at the noise canceling unit, i was able to repair it, but then started to short at the input jack, i was also able to fix it with soldering iron and glue, but a month after the left side blow. These ear buds were comfortable but not durable. Especially the soldering and wiring. Does anyone knows of any ear buds (need ear buds design only) that is durable at both wiring and speaker that could withstand moderate shaking while i am operating a backhoe. thicker cord(wiring) would be an advantage. Remember guys only ear bud design, i don’t want much notice.

double-declining balance and partial year depreciation?
On April 1, 2008, Bricen Backhoe Co. purchases a trencher for $253,000. The machine is expected to last five years and have a salvage value of $25,300.
Compute depreciation expense for year 2009 assuming the company uses the double-declining balance method.
Who knows compact tractors and is willing to give me adivce on a purchase?
I’m searching for a used (but perhaps new is better) compact tractor which I know must be a 4×4 but don’t know the first thing about what else to look before prior to purchase. I will need it to build a new driveway, dig a small pond, make a pad for a shop/garage, and much more. I believe I would like a backhoe attachment also. I have to many questions to ask here so if someone who REALLY knows tractors (like I know dirtbikes) can help please email me and I will list all my questions and would appreciate your advice so much prior to spending many thousands. Thank You.
Best way to remove a lot of stumps?
I recently traded 30 acres of timber for 30 acres of stumps (and some cash
). Now I want to clear and grade these 30 acres to build a mobile home park. I need a cheap and effective way to remove thousands of stumps (mostly 6″-24″ pines) quickly. I do not have years for chemicals to work, more like a few weeks. Obviously I want to do this as cheap as possible, and paying someone with a backhoe $150 a hour to pull/remove the stumps could cost more than the trees sold for. Grinding the stumps would be cheaper, but still several thousand. I was thinking about buying some used motor oil from local automotive repair shops, hiring a couple of people to soak the stumps, and then come back a couple of days later to burn them. Is this feasible, or will it take weeks for the stumps to burn down? Time and money are of the essence! Any other suggestions are more than welcome too!!!
Also, I seen a lot of jokes about dynomite, but I wonder if it would really be time and cost effective or have someone come in and blow them out? Has anyone ever had this done?
What is the average hourly rates for an equipment operator?
I have a 2 acre lot that needs some cut and fill work done. The maximum cut depth is 3ft (a mound about 20 x 40) and this dirt will be used for the area being filled which is already pretty even but needs to raised about 1ft to match the main property elevation. I also have some trees and underbrush that needs removing. I just need a ballpark figure for someone operating a skid-steer or rubber tire backhoe so that I can look for competitive companies an not get taken advantage of.
How do we shred/chop up the roots left by a 25 ft of hedges?
My husband, friend, and I have just used a chainsaw to remove about 25-35 foot long row of hedges (combination of osage orange, mulberry bushes, whatever the original hedge was, and hibiscus). The little stumps/roots are sticking up in a row. We were figuring on yanking these things out with a come-along and a truck someday in the future, but I was thinking we may be better off using something that would shred or chip the stuff up in the ground. Is there a power tool that will do this? We live in a city suburb (houses close together, yard a bit short of a 1/4 acre) so bringing in a backhoe-like rig would be overkill – and I don’t think I want to drive something like that up our concrete drive which is right by the house and my tiller is good for basic gardening but not chipping up tree roots. Any ideas?
