A reply to “Joe the Plumber” an echo of my own life, what do you think ?
This is the real reason why you don’t want to vote for Obama. He just doesn’t understand.
Given the furor about “Joe the plumber” I’ve written an open letter to Mr.
Obama myself. I think it is worth the read. Maybe if Americans could take a closer look at what a small businessman is, they wouldn’t want politicians penalizing their success. Feel free to forward it if you want…
Cory
Mr. Obama,
Given the uproar about the simple question asked you by Joe the plumber, and the persecution that has been heaped on him because he dared to question you, I find myself motivated to say a few things to you myself.
While Joe aspires to start a business someday, I already have started not one, but 4 businesses. But first, let me introduce myself. You can call me “Cory the well driller”. I am a 54 year old high school graduate. I didn’t go to college like you, I was too ready to go “conquer the world” when I finished high school. 25 years ago at age 29, I started my own water well drilling business at a time when the economy here in East Texas was in a tailspin from the crash of the early 80′s oil boom. I didn’t get any help from the government, nor did I look for any. I borrowed what I could from my sister, my uncle, and even the pawn shop and managed to scrape together a homemade drill rig and a few tools to do my first job.
My businesses did not start as a result of privilege. They are the result
of my personal drive, personal ambition, self discipline, self reliance,
and a determination to treat my customers fairly. From the very start my business provided one other (than myself) East Texan a full time job. I couldn’t afford a backhoe the first few years (something every well drilling business had), so I and my helper had to dig the mud pits that are necessary for each and every job with hand shovels. I had to use my 10 year old, 1/2 ton pickup truck for my water tank truck (normally a job for at least a 2 ton truck).
A year and a half after I started the business, I scraped together a
20% down payment to get a modest bank loan and bought a (28 year) old, worn out, slightly bigger drilling rig to allow me to drill the deeper water wells in my area. I spent the next few years drilling wells with the rig while simultaneously rebuilding it between jobs. Through these years I never knew from one month to the next if I would have any work or be able to pay the bills. I got behind on my income taxes one year, and spent the next two years paying that back (with penalty and interest) while keeping up with ongoing taxes. I got behind on my water well supply bill 2 different years (way behind the second time… $80,000.00), and spent over a year paying it back (each time) while continuing to pay for ongoing supplies C.O.D.. Of course, the personal stress endured through these experiences and years is hard to measure. I do have a stent in my heart now to memorialize it all.
I spent the next 10 years developing the reputation for being the most
competent and most honest water well driller in East Texas . 2 years along
the way, I hired another full time employee for the drilling business so
that we could provide full time water well pump service as well as the well drilling. Also, 3 years along the path, I bought a water well screen service machine from a friend, starting business # 2. 5 years later I made a business loan for $100,000.00 to build a new, higher production, computer controlled screen service machine. I had designed the machine myself, and it didn’t work out for 3 years so I had to make the loan payments without the benefit of any added income from the new machine. No government program was there to help me with the payments, or to help me sleep at night as I lay awake wondering how I would solve my machine problems or pay
my bills. Finally, after 3 years, I got the screen machine working
properly, and that provided another full time job for an East Texan in the
screen service business.
2 years after that, I made another business loan, this time for
$250,000.00, to buy anot her used drilling rig and all the support equipment needed to run another, larger, drill rig. This provided another 2 full time jobs for East Texans. Again, I spent a couple of years not knowing if I had made a smart move, or a move that would bankrupt me. For the third time in 13 years, I had placed everything I owned on the line, risking everything, in order to build a business.
A couple of years into this, I came up with a bright idea for a new
kind of mud pump, a fundamentally necessary pump used on water well drill rigs. I spent my entire life savings to date (just $30,000.00), building a prototype of the pump and took it to the national water well convention to show it off. Customers immedi

well it’s good, but it looks like it got cut off at the end. I doubt he will respond though.
I love it and can really relate to it, remember the treatment of Joe by the Democrats when you vote, should be motivation enough to not want that treatment for any united states citizens.
Listen to the Democrats, they don’t care about joe’s treatment, how silly is that, sounds like nazi germany they won’t care until someone comes after them for daring to ask a simple question.
Hey Dems is it 250k,150k, 200k or the 42k that Barry voted on to raise taxes last year< which is it?
If you don’t clear 250k a year you won’t get taxed more. Go to the website and try the calculator. I own my own business also, taxing the working and middle class has almost put me out of business I need my customers to have more money so I can have more customers a tax break won’t help me.
I don’t think too much of Joe The “NO SHOW” Plumber…Or your long winded saga…..LMAO!!!!!!
SEE EDIT BELOW!
this is what i think of it, and i think that democrats married to obama miss the point of what makes immigrants flock into the united states far more than going to any other country to make a living for themselves. the politicians have not even one iota of how your principles and business ideas, all taken at your own risk, have in turn given you the capacity to employ others. and then those others spend money in the economy, which in turn keeps other people working and paying THE TAX.
immigrants flock here–one of the reasons, that is–so that they can use their wiles and accumen to build themselves a business which can better their lives and the lives of their families.
being that i have gone about a hundred times down mexico way and to other places in the world (i drove mexico, the entire country, for 5 weeks in 1974), i understand why it is that those who are poor there, south of our border and anywhere in the world where there is poverty and suffering will bend over backwards to get into the usa. but do not get me wrong: i do not believe in illegal aliens staying here, taking jobs from citizens–they should be deported.
they come here with their families, those that can work. they will work around the clock, in different shifts, while living in squalor compared to how joe the plumber, once he built his business, like you did and like my own father did, lives, just so that they can “make it” enough to send their poor relatives at home the scraps of the bank account. they work hard enough to make profits that they then put back into their business and make it grow. they will start with one store, work it 24 hours a day, then use any profit to open another store, and so on.
i have been inside of every type of home in the united states that you can think of over 25 years of practice in my real estate consultation and brokerage business, which means that i have seen how the people LIVE. it’s remarkable! i once showed a building that had many very small, one bedroom, one bath apartments with a railroad kitchen and a living room. there had to be at least 25 mexicans living in it! mamacita had stretched CLOTHESLINES all over all of the rooms because almost all day long, she stood at the sink, making tortilla shells! and she hung them on the clotheslines to dry, so that all the men who were her relatives would have food to eat at the end of their shifts! and that’s how they made it: not by gaining even a high school diploma. and i have been in the lavish estates owned by blue bloods and by those with the new money also: there is no food in the icebox. they go out to eat every single day and still cannot save 2% of their net income per year for their old age. they went to college and they work at least 15 hours per day in office cubicles, but not ever putting their lives on the line like you have, nor how those unfortunates have.
i really admire you. i doubt obama would even sniff your letter, nor will he write to you. his ilk is elitist, as though above you. but worse, his ilk will pull you and those that you employ down into the muck in order to provide handouts to those that show no drive, no desire, no taking of risks, to simply make it. elitists do not understand the plight of the small businessman/woman. it is as though they see themselves up on some pedestal. and the pedestal is named Greed.
in any “socialist” (socialism is a misnomer: communism is what it really is. socialism is an idealist state between capitalism and communism) state, a person such as yourself, or me, who made the conscious decision to open a business on their own risking everything that they had (in the case above, risking even having a bed to sleep in!), is not a valuable member of society. he is a threat to the commie system that takes young people with hope and the willingness to strive, with energy and talent to make it big, all on their own, putting them into dead end jobs and placing them into government cubicle housing, effectively taking away hope from them to ever reallize their personal ambitions and dreams–all in the name of redistribution of “wealth,” but did you ever see commie heads of state living in state owned high rises that are equivalent to those horrible high rise buildings that have housed poor (mostly black) americans, stacked one on top of another, seeing only the poverty and never able to see what they could do if they left. it would take putting the environment behind them, striking out entirely on their own and risking even being able to pay the rent, all so that they could put their wits into building themselves a business.
elitist liberal democrats just do not understand your life, nor do they want to. they do not care that your efforts employed others, keeping the ball rolling in our economy, because in their elitist minds, THEY are superior to you and to those that you employed, who then spent their money in establishments that then gave work
! edit !:
(why was the rest of my answer, put here, below, cut off, like the letter that you wrote to obama???):
elitist liberal democrats just do not understand your life, nor do they want to. they do not care that your efforts employed others, keeping the ball rolling in our economy, because in their elitist minds, THEY are superior to you and to those that you employed, who then spent their money in establishments that then gave work to others, all so that the elitists could live the life of riley on the public dole.
after i watched my father build up his excavation company, out of scratch and out of a very small loan (repaying it in full, of course, out of his word of honor and respect for their help, within 5 years), build up his business whereby my mom stayed at home with us kids while he slaved out there, buying more equipment and putting others to work on it, i myself learned that the only way to really make it for myself was to be self employed.
now joe the plumber and you and me will all get penalized for netting a profit of spit. $250,000 a year is nothing. look at what the CEOs of all the bailed out institutions got paid per year! the elitists have the open end to bail them out again, too. and they will use our tax dollars to not only do that, but to keep us at war, since war makes their ilk make a lot of money, money, and more money, often hidden away in offshore accounts.
and when our next president leaves office, his income will be vast. think of all those speaking engagements! think of the connections he has established with others with king’s ransoms of money in their coffers, and in power, all over the world! all of those connections, which make the neocons run for that prize is the real reason why they want the “throne.” they push our lives to the side to aggrandize their own lives and all of their progeny.
i am for you and i am for me. but that’s because i watched my dad make it all on his own. he didn’t have a college degree, but if i told him the price of real estate @ a 4% commission, some odd closing price, such as $576,000, my dad would spit the dollar figure out of his mouth in less than 30 seconds! and he also proudly landed on the beaches of normandy to free the french from the stranglehold of the nazis. maybe that’s why he had such drive. he was brave.
you are brave. keep on sending those letters to the elitists that will gladly keelhole you all in the “honorable” endeavor to redistribute “wealth.” being in real estate sort of jades my view of money. $250k a year is spit, like i said. and as you know, it is not much.
these commies by nature, these elitists and those that would rather that our country be turned over to NATO, all in their game to woo us over to acceptance of a one world government and economy that benefits them at our expense, are in fact only self concerned.
i say, fight them. i say, do not cast your vote their way: they could very well spoil any chances your child has for working in the line of work that will make him/her happy as well as fruitful.
i say, the role of the federal government in our lives should be far less, therefore, that The One’s grand ideas make me sick to death.
good luck!
